Works by Self-Taught Southern Artists

WTRAC’s primary benefactors, the Caldwells, were passionate collectors of self-taught “folk” or “outsider” artists who created original, sincere and often subtly humorous images of their worlds using whatever materials were available.

Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, “The Paintings of Carl David Sokol Morris” was a posthumous exhibition featuring a series of personal, evocative and unique paintings by a talented young artist who was diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teenager.
